Near and Long Term Assessment Assessment Program Planning and Management Evaluation, Recommendations, and Repair
PPEA associates have extensive experience in the development and implementation of life assessment projects for fossil plants with the objective of improved reliability and safety, typically for plant high energy systems. Various possible failure mechanisms, such as erosion, corrosion, creep, fatigue, rupture, and stability, and their interactions are considered with emphasis on those mechanisms likely to be a problem given known system conditions and/or operating histories. Appropriate inspection and evaluation techniques have been used to identify conditions which might lead to failure and unplanned outages. In some cases these projects have involved relatively short term concerns such as evaluation of seam welded piping in high energy systems. Other longer term efforts have involved a programmed approach to systematically review and monitor fossil plant high energy piping components. Assessment projects and implementation of their recommendations have proven to be a cost effective means of avoiding failures and plant outages.

Design and Analysis of Vessels and Tanks Design and Construction Specifications Static Loads and Dynamic Fluid Interactions Testing and Inservice Inspection Programs
PPEA services related to this unique class of structures include the writing of detailed design and construction specifications and their implementation. PPEA associates experience with applicable industry codes and standards, including any of the Sections and Divisions of the ASME Code is extensive. Years of participation on codes and standards committees by PPEA associates helps assure correct interpretation of sometimes complicated requirements. Their extensive experience allows the application of basic principles via simplified procedures or up to date computer analysis techniques as warranted by a given situation.

Structural Design, Analysis and Failure Analysis AISC, AASHTO, AITC, and ACI-318 Qualifications Buildings, Equipment Supports and Arctic Foundations Seismic and Other Dynamic Loadings Fitness for Use Inspections and Surveys
PPEA associates have a broad range of experience resulting from years of applied structural engineering. Applying such knowledge and, when appropriate, using state of the art computer analysis software, has provided clients with a variety of effective engineering solutions. Past services extend from simple common sense consulting advice to detailed designs for new and modified structures. Particularly strong capabilities are available to assist with structures whose main purpose is to support or house piping systems, pressure vessels, storage tanks, or other heavy equipment. Additionally, a unique experience base in interdisciplinary problem solving related to frozen ground engineering, snow control, wind-induced piping vibration, and equipment design for severe environments has been gained from prior projects on the North Slope of Alaska.

Support Design Criteria Standard and Special Designs Structural Attachments and Embedments ASME Code Qualification Pipe Support Detailing
With the PPEA associates background in piping and structural analysis, in addition to their considerable pipe support experience, PPEA is highly qualified to offer pipe support design and analysis services. PPE associates are members of ASME Code committees relating to pipe support design. They have an intimate knowledge of background of the present rules and the future direction of these rules.

Material Selection and Specification Failure Analysis Microscopic Analysis Thermal Processing and Specifications Mechanical Testing Programs
PPEA provides metallurgical engineering services for a variety of materials, including structural, alloy, and stainless steels, aluminum, nickel, and copper alloys. PPEA can provide training in metallurgy alone or augment training in welding and inspection technologies. PPEA can supply experienced personnel for full scope structural and mechanical, field and laboratory metallurgical investigations.

Piping and Pipe Support Design Pressure Vessel and Storage Tank Design Welding Engineering ASME Pressure Vessel and Piping Code Requirements PPEA associates have developed training programs for clients, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, presenting methods and procedures for design and analysis of mechanical equipment, piping, welding, and pipe supports. PPEA, with its experienced industry professionals, sees the area of technical training to be one of its major contributions to client needs. PPEA's ASME Code participation adds timely relevance to its training seminars.

Fitness for Service Evaluation Operation and Maintenance Programs Piping and Component Repair and Modification Pressure Vessel Repair and Modification PPEA associates have extensive experience working with operating piping systems and vessels. Much of that experience has involved aged items (30 plus years of service) and items subjected to loads outside original design specifications including unanticipated loads (severe thermal stratification, earthquake, slugging, et cetera) as well as operating conditions which exceed original design parameters. The combination of code committee activities and wide ranging problem solving experience keeps PPEA associates abreast of industry problems and current technology, and thereby permits PPEA to offer a full range of engineering maintenance, repair, and modification services.
|
Project Engineering Management Construction Management Maintenance Management Craft Supervision PPEA associates' experience includes management of engineering from original planning through completion of construction for both new and revamp, piping and mechanical projects. Associates' experience includes direct supervision and general construction management, both as an owner representative and as a contractor and have implemented and managed field engineering, scheduling, and quality programs for initial construction, startup, and maintenance work.

Welding Program Development Welding Procedure Evaluation Joining Process Selection Inspection and Examination PPEA associates can help clients in the development of programs that will control welding and related processes. This would include assistance in developing welding procedures, qualifying those procedures, and qualifying personnel to use them. Associates can provide welding examination or inspection on-site or train personnel to perform such examination or inspection. PPEA can also aid in the selection of joining processes and the development of equipment parameters for specific applications. Failure analysis and failure prevention services have also been provided by PPEA associates.

Foundation Design Snow Drift Control Facilities Design Pipeline Design Northern Logistics PPEA associates have a broad range of experience in applying engineering principles to problems encountered in cold regions. From above-ground pipelines constructed in cold regions to control of drifting snow in wind-blown areas, they have gained valuable experience from working in the field solving these unique problems. Facilities constructed in cold regions require special consideration; including material selection, foundation design and construction sequence, vapor barrier requirements, site location, and logistics to mention a few. Many times the arctic and antarctic environment can facilitate economical solutions rather than penalize if experienced cold regions designers apply cold regions engineering and construction principles.
